Veterans of Divine Orbit Update and Changelog

We’ve been deep in the code pushing out the latest set of mechanics, performance tweaks, and system updates for Divine Orbit. This round focuses heavily on refining core gameplay loops, smoothing out random encounter pacing, and laying down new framework layers to make combat and progression feel punchier than ever.

# Divine Orbit – Veterans Update

The fleet remembers. Units that survive alongside Earth can now rise through Bronze, Silver, and Gold veterancy ranks, gaining new abilities that reinforce their battlefield role. This update also introduces a strange new elite, improves combat reporting and elemental counterplay, and adds another broad performance and presentation pass.

## Fleet veterancy

– Surviving permanent fleet units can now earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold ranks during a run.

– Promotions are announced on the battlefield with a rank burst, floating promotion notice, and a distinct service crest.

– **Vanguards:** Veteran Vanguards unlock point-defense guns. Higher ranks increase interception range and reduce the time between defensive shots. Their main weapon remains unchanged.

– **Valkyries:** Veteran Valkyries deploy pursuit mines during active combat. Mines drift quietly in the gunship’s wake, awaken when enemies approach, and accelerate into a rank-scaled area detonation. Deployment cadence, tracking response, damage, and blast radius improve with rank, with a strict three-mine cap per Valkyrie.

– **Dreadnoughts:** Promotion fully restores the Dreadnought’s shields and progressively accelerates drone fabrication. Gold carriers replace drones almost twice as quickly as unranked ships while retaining the existing global drone cap.

– **Archangels:** Every rank increases armor and weapon damage, culminating in a Gold Archangel with 75% more armor and 50% more damage. Promotions add the newly earned armor immediately without providing an unrelated full heal.

– **Project Saturn:** Veteran Saturn frigates gain an automatic phase cloak after taking a hit. Higher ranks extend cloak duration and reduce its cooldown. Cloaking breaks enemy target locks and prevents reacquisition while allowing Saturn to continue firing; stray fire and area damage remain dangerous.

## Fleet identity and behavior

– **Archangel visual overhaul:** The prototype now has a white, gold, and cyan celestial hull, layered feather vanes, a segmented halo, a sanctified field, and responsive engine effects.

– Archangels fire a unique Seraph Lance with its own travelling halo, cyan wake, and gold-white spear profile instead of borrowing Vanguard projectile art.

– Archangel autonomous flight has been rebuilt around a wider Earth patrol, longer target detection, decisive intercept charges, sweeping attack passes, visible banking, and thrust-responsive engines.

– **Project Saturn containment:** Saturn frigates now steer away from the battlefield boundary and have a final safety margin against extreme knockback, preventing edge targets from pulling them offscreen.

– The upgraded Saturn dual salvo has been reduced from 7,600 damage every 0.7 seconds to 5,500 every 0.8 seconds. It remains substantially stronger than the base weapon without erasing Void Assault encounters.

– Relevant fleet armor and shield bars have been made easier to read during combat.

## New elite: Reprisal Lens

– A new early-game elite can appear outside the inner orbit and absorb stray or deliberate player fire.

– Absorbed shots charge the Lens before it returns their energy as a condensed hostile volley.

– The encounter returns throughout longer runs with stronger late-game variants, but appears often enough to become part of the combat language rather than a rare novelty.

– Deflected and abandoned projectiles now have firmer lifetime cleanup so redirected shots cannot persist as invisible hazards.

## Capital defense and black holes

– Dreadnoughts can now form **Event Horizon Armor** after absorbing repeated capital-class attacks.

– The temporary horizon shell sharply reduces incoming damage and slingshots later hostile projectiles away from Earth.

– Event Horizon presentation has been strengthened with a longer duration, layered accretion rings, orbiting particles, and a more substantial gravity shell.

– Black holes stop pulling the Moon before dragging it all the way into their center.

– Moon release movement has been smoothed, and repeated floating-text spam during black-hole displacement has been suppressed.

## Combat readability

– Near misses now produce a restrained visual accent around Earth’s edge to complement the existing near-miss audio cue.

– Elemental Anomalies have clearer type identities, counter instructions, and feedback when the correct ability is used.

– Anomaly counters have been realigned so standard abilities can answer the intended elemental types without making Nuclear Strike the default solution to most encounters.

– Mission Report autopsies now provide clearer damage attribution and access to a detailed damage log, including the source and amount of individual hits against Earth.

– Generic **Hostile Fire** attribution has been reduced where a more specific attacker or damage source is known.

– Boss and major-unit health or armor information is displayed more consistently where durability is an important part of the encounter.

## Bosses and presentation

– Fractal Overseer, Void Serpent, and Solar Eater presentation has been smoothed for cleaner recording and playback while preserving the hybrid React/canvas renderer.

– Boss animation throttling has been relaxed where it caused visible stepping rather than meaningful performance savings.

– Several boss effects now use clearer dark containment backplates, improving contrast during crowded late-game fights.

## Performance and stability

– Projectile manipulation and elite behaviors continue to use bounded pools, throttled acquisition, spatial queries, and in-place cleanup.

– Valkyrie mines scan for targets at a controlled cadence and are strictly capped rather than creating another unrestricted swarm.

– Archangel flight and veterancy effects remain ref-driven and avoid introducing additional React renders into the main combat loop.

– Fixed an Event Horizon armor crash caused by an undefined effect-lifetime value.

– Continued reducing short-lived allocations and unnecessary visual work in high-density combat.

# Divine Orbit — Fleet Operations Update

This update expands the space between major waves with new objectives, specialist enemy craft, and a broader boss roster. Fleet units are more powerful and customizable, but major threats have learned how to fight back.

## New tactical events

– **Distress Beacon Operations:** Beginning in Year 4, distant distress sites can appear during the AI Director’s cooldown phase and return every ten years. Send a Vanguard or Archangel into the marked zone and hold position to secure the wreck.

– **Archangel KIA Credit:** Securing a distress beacon grants +10 Vanguard KIA credit. Every 50 accumulated KIA authorizes one Archangel deployment, with further authorizations available throughout exceptionally long runs.

– **Loot Runners:** Midas caches, Jackpot runners, and volatile Toxic canisters now cross the battlefield. Breaking one scatters physical Stardust fragments that must still be recovered by an Ark Magnet.

– **High-Value Targets:** Contraband runners make a rapid crossing and demand the correct God Power before they escape.

– **Aegis Couriers:** Friendly ships now undertake gravity-assist escort runs for Stardust and Stability rewards. Hostile ambush apertures can fire on the convoy during its route.

– **Inertial Husks:** Heavy orbital debris must be stopped with a charged kinetic strike before reaching its detonation point.

– **Ion Disable Drones:** Stealth fliers can jam the Defense Grid if their ion beam finishes charging.

– **Breach Screamers:** Hostile scouts can warp siege cruisers directly into firing range when left uncontested.

– **Rogue Moons:** Lunar interlopers can enter orbit and obstruct Moon operations until destroyed.

## Combat and enemy behavior

– **Gemini Regents:** A new dual-entity boss shares one health pool across two widely separated royal warships. Damage windows alternate between the brother and sister while their tether and fleet weapons control the battlefield.

– **Expanded boss roster:** Major-boss variants and late-run capital minibosses broaden the encounter pool while preserving the original bosses. Gravity Wound now enters the rotation later, giving Gemini room to headline the early boss schedule.

– **Boss fleet countermeasures:** Major bosses now actively punish unsupported Vanguard formations instead of ignoring the fleet around them.

  – Gravity Wound projects a close-range armor-draining hazard.

  – Solar Eater shots inflict Stability damage and its fleet attack burns through marked lanes.

  – Void Serpent tail segments discharge electrical pulses when Vanguards crowd them.

  – Fractal Overseer emits a rejection wave that throws nearby ships away and can shear armor.

  – Plasma Wraith deploys slow homing mines with fleet splash damage.

  – Aegis Dreadnought uses twin point-defense mounts to lock and fire on exposed Vanguards.

  – Hyperion Carrier launches interceptor wings that hunt Vanguards while its rail cannon remains active.

  – Eclipse Core’s vent phase releases expanding shockwave bands that damage ships only along the visible ring.

– **Pulsar counterplay:** Pulsar now instantly seals escort ambush apertures caught inside its blast, giving the power a distinct tactical role during convoy missions.

– **Phase Shifters:** Phase Shifters now take a long-range opening shot before beginning their phased charge sequence.

– **Splinter Drones:** Splinters use more varied attack movement, avoid predictable passes through the center, and now have dedicated weapon audio.

– **Vanguard targeting:** Vanguards can identify and prioritize active Ion Disable Drones before the Defense Grid is jammed.

– **Gravity Wound:** The boss relocates during battle and visibly launches travelling gravity pulses from its open wound.

– **Plasma Wraith:** The Wraith has a more distinct silhouette, denser visual detail, and firmer movement that separates it from the Solar Eater.

– **Plasma Wraith counterplay:** The Wraith can now be defeated through normal combat and no longer requires Flood, preventing low-Stability runs from becoming trapped.

– **Boss approach behavior:** Major threats enter the battlefield at a more readable pace and ranged bosses establish their firing position away from Earth.

– **Orbital faction weapons:** The M.A.C. Carriage and Hyperion Array now acquire visible targets through the spatial grid, can engage bosses, and only fire when a target enters range. The M.A.C. retains its rail patrol and fires a paced heavy slug; Hyperion emits discrete directional laser bursts.

– **Jericho artillery:** Enemy artillery damage continues scaling into later years.

## New specialist fliers

– **Ion Disablers:** Stealth approach craft establish a long beam lock and temporarily jam new Defense Grid construction if they survive the windup.

– **Breach Screamers:** Fast insertion craft rush the inner orbit and tear open a breach for siege cruisers already prepared to fire.

– **Stability Raiders:** Mid-game harassers establish a distant firing position, launch a limited volley of slow Stability-draining bolts, and retreat.

– **War Chanters:** Rear-line command ships accompany cruiser showcases and strengthen nearby capital formations until destroyed.

– **Vanguard Captors:** Tractor stations seize one Vanguard and suspend it outside the fight. Destroying the captor returns the same ship with its remaining armor intact.

– Every specialist uses a dedicated silhouette, approach pattern, telegraph, and combat role so new contacts can be identified before their attack resolves.

## Fleet and cosmetics

– **Siegebreaker Dreadnought:** A new Vanguard Dreadnought configuration turns absorbed enemy fire into offensive siege pressure without sacrificing the unit’s tank role.

– **Orbital Track variants:** Several new high-impact track cosmetics join the original gold treatment with more extreme animated color and energy profiles.

– Vanguard Dreadnought visuals now carry additional hull plating, weapon detail, and a stronger capital-ship silhouette.

## The Stardust Forge

– Every upgrade tree card now has a bespoke animated preview that demonstrates its effect, including live unit and defense sprites where appropriate.

– Genesis Protocol and Aegis Core have unique capstone presentation that reflects their place in the tree.

– Deep Space Winch now visualizes the Ark Magnet’s expanded collection radius.

– Forge cards remain clearer while zoomed out, and the tree opens at a more useful starting zoom.

– Navigation, card selection, purchases, rewards, and confirmations now have dedicated UI feedback.

## Run archives

– Starting a New Game now creates a new numbered Run Archive instead of replacing Slot 1.

– The current run receives an immediate opening checkpoint and continues autosaving every 60 seconds.

– The Data menu lists every archived run with its timestamp, year, and population. Older runs can be loaded or deleted individually.

– Continue automatically selects the newest available run.

– The Year 2 faction choice now persists with the run and is restored when that archive is loaded.

– Assault mode no longer creates or consumes campaign autosaves; only its earned Void tier progression persists.

## Audio overhaul

– Boss attacks now use distinct firing, charge, movement, and sustained-attack sounds across Gravity Wound, Solar Eater, Fractal Overseer, Plasma Wraith, and Void Serpent encounters.

– Vanguard, Splinter Drone, Phase Shifter, escort ambush, and M.A.C. Carriage weapons have dedicated firing audio.

– Shields, armored boss states, exposed boss hits, and blocked shots now provide separate throttled impact feedback.

– Boss deaths draw from a larger explosion pool, while smaller battlefield events use new electronic discharge and impact variants.

– Title-screen menus, the Data Archive, Directives, Command Identity, and the Forge now have fuller navigation and reward audio.

– Repeated combat sounds use tighter voice limits and throttling to preserve the mix during large battles.

## Performance and presentation

– The main battlefield and starfield now render to a capped 1920 × 1080 internal pixel budget before scaling to the display, substantially reducing high-resolution rendering cost.

– Frequently redrawn ships, fields, beacons, and effects now reuse cached gradients or baked sprites instead of rebuilding expensive canvas effects every frame.

– Loot Runner fragments and Resonance Beacon effects have been optimized for crowded encounters.

– Friendly units are discouraged from pursuing combat beyond the visible battlefield, keeping fights readable and on-screen.

– Escort and High-Value Target route graphics now use fixed interception markers rather than lines that appear physically attached to moving ships.

– Deep-space telemetry has been reorganized around the campaign’s meaningful milestones and no longer overwhelms the player with redundant previews.

– Repeated Orbital Control warnings have been reduced so critical messages retain their weight.

## Infrastructure and quality of life

– **Repair Drones:** Deploy up to two autonomous low-orbit craft that restore Population over time in exchange for Stability.

– **Space Scrubbers:** Deploy autonomous probes that search the starfield for resources.

– **Active Protocols:** Austerity, Chronos, Ares Override, Bulwark, and Extraction controls live in the Defense Grid infrastructure area, with previews for locked systems.

– Encounter prompts and Protocol Evolution drafts now queue cleanly instead of opening on top of one another.

– Crisis effects, persistent critical-state warnings, and compact combat health displays provide clearer battlefield information with less label clutter.

– Save/load archive cards now use stronger surface contrast and brighter metadata for improved readability.

– Beacon schedules, KIA totals, earned Archangel authorizations, and active objectives persist correctly through save/load.
